Do you have a true friend when it’s needed??
WHO’S GOING TO BE MY FRIEND
Who’s going to be my friend
When I’m at my wit’s end
And reaching for a hand
That knows what I’ve endured
And where I have been
Who’s going to be my friend
When I’m unemployed
And don’t have enough money
To even buy the cheapest toy
Who’s going to be my friend
When I’m feeling down
Sitting alone in my private space
Not making a peep or sound
And a frown has melted to my face
Who’s going to be my friend
When I become sick or ill
And can’t do anything
Other than just lie still
Who’s going to be my friend
When my car has broken down
On the side of the road
With no one for miles around
In the middle of nowhere
And my nervousness grows
Who’s going to be my friend
When I need to talk
And feeling annoyed
Like the screeching from a chalkboard
Needing some fresh air
And going for a walk
But would you meet me there?
Who’s going to be my friend
When I have no place to stay
And trying to make it alone
Each and everyday
With no place to call home
Who’s going to be my friend
When my significant other leaves
Or a loved one dies
Will you be able to feel my need?
As I feel barely alive
With deep rooted pain inside
That is circling me
Who’s going to be my friend
When I have nothing
That I can actually give
Other than simply be
A very good friend
Would this be enough
To survive and thrive until the end
Especially when times get rough
And my head is in a spin
Or a broken heart
From what I’ve experienced
So, the question remains
And is unchanged
No matter the situation
Or where I have been
Whether I have done wrong
And have made amends
Or have been great to you
From beginning to end
Despite the circumstances
I’ve been in
So, who’s going
So, who’s going
To be my friend
Where writing comes alive
