Words As A Weapon (Part 2)

The power that words have
Can be used for good
Or pushed towards bad
Must be careful
Because when they have been said
And pass
The effects they leave behind
Could potentially last
For quite sometime
So keep this in mind
Before the tongue goes
Out of line
And with no control
Exposing feelings and perceptions
That may never go
Away from then on
Take responsibility
To the words you own
And decide to use
They could just as well
Be used for a tool
Use to rule
Inspire or abuse
Portray in a way
That you may not have wanted to
Nor ready for
The wrong words said
Can be kept like a score
Once put out there
They cannot return
So quickly discern
And learn
Be very mindful
Before they leave your mouth
Because that tongue is sharp
And could potentially burn
Yet used in such a way
That it makes someone’s day
Inspire them to do something great
Leading in a better direction
Through constructive criticism
Heading towards a unique vision
Capturing attention
And locked within a prism
Words have power
You best believe
Do not be misled here
Nor preconceived ideas
Of where they could go from here
They can travel for miles
And heard for all time
Causing many smiles
Or distract the mind
A weapon they can be
And exceedingly
Efficient at it
Whether right or wrong
Just place them
In the area and time
Where they truly belong
And can do the most good
Try your very best
To be understood
Words like artillery support
Roaming around aimlessly
And sorts
Or put to great use
The context of words
Could make a difference
Between win or lose
If you so choose
To be wise
Or play the fool
To underestimate their effect
Would be a huge mistake
So think before you speak
And just sit and wait
Before letting go of words
That causes damage
Before it’s too late
To even turn it back
Someone felt the attack
And typically one
That deserved more tact
From you
But in that very moment
You chose to go the wrong way
We can truly hurt others
With the words we say
Make it easier on self
Instead of learning such a hard lesson
Always remember
Those words can be used as weapon

  1. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21

That is what this piece reminds me of. You expression on the power of words is truly profound. I would also say that you poem is a excellent display of how the pen is, indeed, mightier than the sword.
