A word that everyone knows, and an event that no matter what happens, there is never a true winner.

War is politics by other means, war in itself is something that truly serves itself. It is not for the greater good or to make peace with anyone around the world. So why do we do it? Monetary reasons? Selfish reasons? To conquer someone else or to show just how big and bad you are? Ernest Hemingway stated, “There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow men. True nobility lies in being superior to your former self”. So war is not for the good of mankind, killing is going to lead to something better? Since when has murder and destruction ever ended well for anyone? These are real questions that need to be asked and addressed before going to war with anyone.

According to Sun Tzu the purpose of war is to advance the goals of the state. Carl von Clausewitz said it was to achieve an end state different and hopefully better than the beginning state.

War is whatever it means to you as an individual or nation. Many have gone to war with the goal of making a difference somehow. But many have returned unsure of what they actually accomplished if at all. The purpose of war is peace? Others it was to protect, but what if it was all done for entirely the wrong reasons? How do we justify that? The answer is you can’t. A positive result is the goal supposedly, by many have died in vain. Those that have lived long enough to tell and share their story, most of them have many regrets.

The conclusion and point here is it’s not worth it in my opinion. Going to war is useless with no clear cut or vital purpose for the benefit of all involved. And especially with no real chance of success or actual improvement before or after it took place. We are doomed if our history continues to repeat itself with no real lessons learned. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting a different result. So in my book, war is insanity.
